Am I the only one who doesn’t see characters completely vividly, but more like bodies with a distinct hair colour and eyes that reflect their personality … does that make sense?
Unless I have a specific person in mind, they are just fuzzy blobs
This is pretty much exactly what happens when I’m reading a book. They’re all just basically blobs with a few distinguishing features mentioned in the text.
I don’t really see my characters or others’ characters in physical traits. I see them more in feelings and expressions.
I think it has to do with the fact that your brain can’t think of a new face. It can only reproduce what it has seen already. Even if we have a real person in mind, they are not gonna fit perfectly with our idea of our ocs and when they clash the details get fuzzy.
This is crazy to me because I see my characters SO sharply. I don’t make them look like people intentionally but I really love faces so I must pick them up somewhere and use them later. How you all write so good with just blobs??? You are so talented.
That is amazing!!!!
You know those artsy music videos where everything is blurry and indistinct but you still get the theme that’s what it looks like in my head. But also I write in first pov so I “see” the whole world from the characters eyes when i write other’s descriptions i write it from the oc’s pov so it differs from one ot another and the way I see them also differs from one to another?
OMG I thought I was the only one!
They’re like… weird, blurry shapes. I know they’re blond (for example), I understand their blondness perfectly. But they’re a person-shaped grey blur.
exactly! I know what everyone looks like! I can see each element like just their eyes or their hair separately but put it all together and its just a blob here and a blob there oh look another blob!
Whenever I write descriptions specific to a part like eye color my brain does a dramatic zoom in on that part and suddenly everything goes from 144p to 4k HD
I can do heights, clothing choices, a vague idea about hair but apart from that it’s really generic. All houses read like pre-built sims properties to me too. Actually Sims is probably a really good description. Everything looks like the Sims either when I’m writing or when I’m reading.
I always vividly imagine someone and then I have the author of the book I’m eading say the complete opposite of what I imagined, and now I’m stuck with the wrong imagine lmao.
I feel like when I’m actually writing I imagine someone specific, but for some reason they become blobs again when I try to think about them without writing.
This is why when I’m brain storming I hunt down stock photos and just general pictures on pinterest until I see a face and I’m like… there you are. Hello, I’ve found you at last.
