Across the Beer Bar with Sara York!
Across the Beer Bar with LizToday's Guest:Sara York

Liz: Welcome to the Tap Room Sara! Make yourself at home. What can I pour for you?I'm strictly on low carbohydrates right now so it will have to be tea, no lemon.huh...you people have gotta get with the beer program...but okay, moving on.
Liz: I hear you love the beach. What is your favorite beach drink?I do love a good margarita. Not everyone can get the tequila mixture just right. Too many people add way too much of the sweet stuff and not enough liquor. Also the brand of tequila matters. Using a low-priced tequila takes away from the flavor. The flavor of tequila should be strong and bold yet never bitter. There should be just the right mix of tangy and sweet in a perfect margarita, one never overpowers the other.
Liz: How many books do you have published?I have one novel and five novellas. I've also published multiple short stories. I've signed the contract on another novella that will be part of a hot M/M anthology coming out at the beginning of next year. I'm excited that in November Working It Out will be available in print.

Liz: You home school your kids…brave. I could never do that. What made you decide to take that on? How long will you do it?My son just entered his freshman year and we plan on home schooling through the rest of high school. It's really not that hard. We use a great computer based curriculum that does all of the lesson planning for me. The grades for non essay questions are done automatically so it's rather easy to home school. What got me started was my very active son couldn't sit down and I didn't want him getting in trouble all the time at school, so when it came time to go to kindergarten we just didn't go. My daughter is two years younger than my son and she's taken to home schooling too. For her the reason to home school is so she can focus on her music and sports, not that she doesn't have to do a ton of bookwork. As a bonus we get to spend all day with our kids which really helps to create a wonderful environment.Hides face: My teenagers and I revel in our "time apart." I admire anyone who can spent that much face time with kids, even their own. I must not be patient enough.
Liz: What is your favorite thing to eat or drink while writing? While editing?Coffee is my drink of choice while editing and writing. I usually end up making a few pots throughout the day just to finish up with my writing. I usually don't eat while working--it's just a thing.
Liz: oh your glass is empty—what can I pour you next?Hmmm, do you have a pot of coffee back there? If I can pry it out of my brewer and his assistant's hands. maybe.

Liz: What was your "erotica epiphany?"Erotic romance isn't just about hot bodies it's about the connection. When two people can make a relationship work, even with the difficulties in today's age, that is erotic. People get hung up on using sex as a manipulation tool and that should never be the case. Sex is a wonderful blessing of relationships that helps you to reconnect, revitalize and revive after the world gets to you.
Liz: Who are your favorite authors?I've just started reading Lee Brazil's stuff and it's brilliant. I also love Laura Harner's work. I've already read her book Ty Hard twice and I'll probably read it again and I don't usually read books twice. I was Laura's CP for Ty Hard. It is a great book. And I love Lee!
Liz: lastly, a bit of a controversial question, you ready?Yes, I'm always ready.
Liz: Do you think that one should have to have experienced on some level the sexual situations one writes about? I realize that you don't have to BE a murderer to write about murder; be an astronaut to write SciFi; be a politician to write political intrigue but the "deep POV" that we must use in our style of writing sometimes begs the question in my humble opinion. No, it would be ridiculous to think creative people must experience everything they create. I know this unrealistic expectation is out there, but it's based off of professional jealousy. It's not the fans who have this expectation, but the other authors who want to corner a market.I doubt I'll ever experience sex on an alien planet with an alien but I do write SciFi erotic romance. I also write M/M sex scenes and since I'll never grow a penis I'll never experience the same type of orgasm that a man does. But then again men have been writing sex scenes in the woman's POV for years.I do believe that you need to do research. Sadly, many men are undereducated on what really gets a woman off because they actually think porn flicks are real life and Hollywood doesn't do much positive for women in spreading the truth about what feels good for a woman in the sex department. In doing research I've asked questions, bought products, and even done a little play in BDSM. I think being open to different experiences is the key to a good author, even if they never fully participate in a certain type of experience they need to be open to it and be willing to do the research.
