What I learned this past week…
Last week, I learned that we hold on to life with a very fine thread that could snap in a second. When your time is up, its up. Sick or healthy, fit or overweight. It doesn't matter. That if we are blessed by god with a long life, we should think about the quality we want for that life.
That when my mother pestered me, my siblings, and anyone who would listen regarding weight and how to lose it right this second, she was concerned that one day along the line we might end up like the patients she used to treat, all fat and clogged up on cold white hospital beds with doctors taking a chance with their treatment. Treating one thing, damaging the other, and going in cycles trying to put a human back on track.
That food, no matter how good it looked or delicious it tastes, is just a fuel for our bodies. We choose the finest unleaded super fuels for our expensive cars. We should do the same for the most precious things we have in life: our bodies and our life time on this earth. There is no guarantee we will live longer or shorter, but there is a guarantee that we will live a better healthier life no matter how long we get to live. That is something to think about the next time you think about downing that big plate of lgaymat or reaching out to order that deep pan pizza with extra cheese and pepperoni on top.
I learned that to go on a diet should aim at getting a better quality of life, not fitting into a size zero skinny jeans and looking good. Its an added bonus of course but it should not be my real goal.
I learned that my choice of becoming a vegetarian is actually a blessing in disguise. I just need to trim all unnecessary fat and sugar from my diet.
I learned that I should try and keep moving whenever the opportunity would arise, and that my wii Fit should never be abandoned and lonely, collecting dust in the corner. With my wii there is no excuse for not trying to be active…
Oh… and I learned that RIM owes us three day's worth of Blackberry subscriptions too
