Today,
I awoke from my afternoon beauty sleep,
or nap,
with the television on.When my brain cleared the haze it was in,
I noticed a commercial about an
"Online South Carolina College,"
and their statement,
which I'll quote,
since it sounds so official if you quote something
or someone,
"America was built by people with a good education and hard work."Or something like that.According toRandye Hoder,fromTime Magazine'swebsite,here comes another quote,"The job market is, after all, awfully tough. Just this month the Federal Reserve Bank of New York released a study showing that “recent graduates are increasingly working in low-wage jobs or working part-time, if they’re lucky enough to find work at all."More quoting.
"The bright spot, according to the Fed analysis, is for students who majored in STEM — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — areas in which recent graduates “have tended to do relatively well, even in today’s challenging labor market."Wasn't it just about 5 years ago that the
"Fed"
said that the job market was opening up for
Graduates
in the
Service Industries?Especially the
Dental
and
Medical fields?The job market changes constantly over the years as the
World Economy
changes it needs.The
Industrial Revolution
has been over for decades
and anyone who believes he
or she can find a job,
keep a job,
and work at a job for
40 to 45 years then retire,
is poorly informed about society today.Plan on having 5 to 10 jobs in your lifetime.Everything from working at a
Mini-Mart,
to a
Fast Food Franchise,
to eventually landing a job in the field that you graduated college for.But the process doesn't stop there.You need to make yourself more important,
to the company you work for,
in the field you work in,
and for any future economic
or social changes,
that could enhance your field of expertise.
Or,
stay ahead of the curve,
in case someone decides to eliminate the field you're working in.This applies to any job at any level.From the
Mechanic,
to the
Lawyer.
It doesn't matter.
You need to keep on learning. "The top One Percent, who control over a third of the Wealth in this Country, according to the Federal Reserve in an article by Dave Roos on the website HowStuffWorks, sees the influx of young, energetic, new employees as a way of trimming salaries by firing long time productive workers and hiring these newbies at a lower wage.They will trim the fat, as they say, by overhauling employees from middle management on down to the part time employee who has accumulated vacation time, a wage increase, and have a chance of being vested where you get a retirement plan because you worked at a place for so many years."The best example of how corporate greed has figured out how to circumvent paying benefits to employees
or even paying their fair share to the
State Unemployment Fund
is a company called
Domino's Pizza Inc.They will hire 30 part-time employees at a time,
give them about 10 hours of work per week,
and after three to four months,
fire that group so they don't have enough accumulated time,
under State law,
to collect unemployment!In my opinion,
and I lived by this motto,
keep learning new things by going to school no matter what age you are.
Stay ahead of the game as far as your chosen field is concerned,
by learning what is on the horizon for that field.
Keep updating your resume.
Even while you are when working.
Look for a higher paying job elsewhere that you feel would suit your needs better.
Be an innovator,
and never fall into complacency.Remember,
there are always 10 new college grads eager for your job!
