What to Do When Life Gets Crazy! (Part 1 of 3)

I recently received a thank you note from a client. She wrote that at the time of her intuitive reading, she had been a little embarrassed and feared I would judge her because her life was so crazy. She went on to write that she knew I was a wise person who “never had things like this happen in your life.” At that, I could only smile.

ALL OF US have times when life turns upside-down. Yes, even me! As I’m writing this, my mother was just put into hospice care; a close family member is coping with a cancer diagnosis, and another in my family has been in the hospital for the past week. This is to say, I try to walk my talk and use all of the intuition, spiritual and personal-growth related ideas that I know about to stay centered and sane when life throws me a curve ball.

I thought it might be helpful to share my daily routine and ideas for staying centered when life gets crazy. There’s a number of things I do. I decided to make it easy to read and follow by dividing it into three parts. More next week! Click here for part 1 of 3.

Listen for Divine Guidance

When I begin to worry, I check in with my intuition. I make a habit of asking questions of my intuition and awaiting a reply. I might ask, “What could I do to feel calmer about this issue?” Intuition communicates through images and body sensations, feelings, as well as through the proverbial “still, quiet, inner voice.” I trust that it is always guiding me to the right next step. I keep a pad of paper and a pen beside me as I do this intuitive guidance exercise. Sometimes the answers come immediately. More often, they’ll pop in my head later in the day.

Use a Mantra

Several years ago, I wrote the book LISTEN: Trusting Your Inner Voice in Times of Crisis. I interviewed a lot of people about how they got through tough times in their lives. Interestingly, almost everyone mentioned a saying, phrase or mantra. It’s simply a statement that makes you feel better and more hopeful when you say it. I’ve used ones like “Miracles are flowing into my life and increasing every day.” “The Universe has big dreams for me; I’m wide open to receive direction and guidance.” “All my needs are met with ease and grace.” If you don’t have one, Google the word “Affirmations” and you’ll find a wealth of options out there. Choose one that resonates with you and your circumstances.

Lastly, the phrase “This too, shall pass” is powerful. I’ve learned one big truth over the thirty years I’ve been doing intuitive readings. THINGS CHANGE! There’s always a new opportunity, a different way of thinking, a novel way of approaching a challenging life issue. When I choose to see the problem du jour as an opportunity and not as something to be fixed, that’s when the miracles can show up in my life and yours.
