Bryl Tyne and Betty Crocker
Bryl Tyne and I are in New Orleans for the Gay Lit Retreat. We went to the hotel yesterday and met some authors, but today is the big day. We've stayed in a hotel just outside the city for the last two nights, but we check into the Bourbon Orleans later today and we'll be amongst so many of those we want to meet.
Last night, we met my son at a Mexican restaurant that has been a fave of my husband and I for years, having lived in the area until three years ago. I hadn't seen Chris in a couple of months and I can't tell you how wonderful it was to spend a couple of hours with him over wine and some really good food.
Bryl asked him if he read any of the stuff I write and he said no. When asked why, he answered, "My Mom has always been Betty Crocker and to read the love scenes and know that the words the characters are saying are my Mom's words, is just more than I can handle."
We laughed about it, but it made me think. Yeah, I baked, A LOT, especially chocolate chip cookies with pecans, which were always a family fave. I did my share of the cooking and then some, too. Cleaned house and cleaned up after everyone.
How life has changed for this Betty Crocker clone. Now I write erotic romance and of late, erotica and I can honestly say, though I love my family more than anything, I do love writing much more than I ever loved the house frau I was.
Chris and his sisters are fine with what I write, but all share the same opinion. It's just a bit squickly that Mom writes about writhing and thrusting. However, I'll always hear Chris' words when Bryl asked him how he felt about my writing. "I couldn't be prouder of her." That, coming from him, means the world.
Time for a nap. Bryl is a VERY early riser and woke me at 4:30 this morning. With all that's planned for today, if I don't get sleep, I'll won't be worth anything later on.
So I leave you with his. My new novella, A Minute After Midnight, which just came out on Monday, is #33 on the Amazon Gay and Lesbian list and number one of the Noble Romance top 10 list. I love that story and hope you will too.
Over and out,
Hugs from Ms. Sandpaper Eyes.
Till next time,Luv,Brita
