Twice Upon a Time
I’m delighted and relieved that the new batch of Doctor Who novelisations which I’m part of has now been officially announced. Designed to hark back to the Target Book adaptations of the classic series, these books are the same length as those, and, certainly in my own case, attempt to hark back to that style of writing. Steven Moffat is adapting ‘The Day of the Doctor’, Russell T. Davies has adapted ‘Rose’, Jenny Colgan is doing ‘The Christmas Invasion’, there’s a new ‘City of Death’ in the shorter form from James Goss, and my own contribution is a novelisation of the Christmas Special ‘Twice Upon a Time’.
It’s been a great pleasure to work with that story, especially given that, with such a long script, there’s a large amount of material in the novelisation that never made it to the screen, including an original poem by Steven Moffat.
The release date for all four books is April 5th, and you can pre-order them now from Amazon UK, Amazon US, Amazon Aus and all good book shops, both online and in the street.
There’s going to be a signing, on Friday, 13th April, featuring all us authors, at Forbidden Planet’s London Megastore, between 6pm and 7pm. If you buy all five books, you get a free poster. But please note that we’ll only be signing the novelisations. The link also lets you order the books by mail.
I haven’t seen my cover art yet, but I’m hoping it’s as lovely as the covers that have been revealed for the only books. In the meantime, we have only this…
I do hope you like the finished book. I certainly enjoyed writing it.
In other Doctor Who news, I’m a guest on the latest episode (#9) of the New to Who podcast, talking about ‘The Seeds of Doom’.
And, most importantly, I’ve signed up to be part of #WhoAgainstGuns, a coalition of Doctor Who fans and pros who are recording a classic episode commentary with many, many voices, split up by episode, which will be available to download in return for a donation to anti-gun-violence charities. Exactly which story we’ll be watching will be revealed later this week. You can find some handy images to show your support on social media, sign up to hear the commentary, and discover some tasty giveaways on the main site.
It’s a cause I feel very strongly about. Please donate, and I hope you enjoy the commentary. So much of my Who life seems to be continuing past Gallifrey One, and I find that very pleasing. Onward!
