A quick update on my writing projects

Hey, all! Just a quick update here on how things are going. First and foremost, I’ve worked through the rough draft and the first polish of Skyward. I love the book, and it is off to my publisher; I’m hoping for feedback soon.

That done, I finally had time to polish up and revise Legion 3, which I’d written last fall. That also is now off with my (other) publisher, being edited.

Those two items were the most important, since they’re both coming out this year. The third Legion story is being published as part of a collection of all three novellas about the character, forming a complete narrative. It should be out August/September or somewhere around then. Skyward is being published by Random House this November sometimes. Expect an official announcement with the cover art to come from the publisher in the next few weeks.

I have the last quarter of this year earmarked to write the final Mistborn (Wax and Wayne) novel, which leaves me around six or seven months to play with, and I’m hoping to finish another book in the Skyward series. However, before I dive into that, there’s a certain novella I need to write. We’re listing that as “Secret Project” and it’s not anything you’re probably guessing. I’ll reveal it when the time is right, but for now, it’s not cosmere, and is not something I’ve talked about before.

Best,

Brandon

message 7: by Cyrielle (new)

Cyrielle Jeanne Oh... So we won't have a separate Lies of the Beholder book like we had Legion and Skin Deep (the Hardcovers from Gollancz), to complete the collection?
Also, very excited about all of this! Can't wait for the last Mistborn Era 2 <3

Benjamin Wallace Always inspiring to hear how much you're accomplishing. Keep it up. Stoked for every project you've got.

Tim Genuine question: Any concern that bouncing around between so many projects might detract from your ability to pour your full heart and soul into any of these books? I've watched and enjoyed many of your lectures (how to write about dragons), and it's quite clear that your can churn out marketable stories at a factory-like pace. But do you ever wonder if being so prolific might be preventing you from elevating the quality of any single book or series from merely good to historically excellent?

Jon @ Tim
I’ve heard him say on several occasions that stopping to do the random shorter works are what keeps him from burning out on the larger projects.

Jorge Ramos Rithmatist novella? Is that even in Cosmere? I tend to forget Brandon.

One other thing, will we ever get to know what happened to the Apocalypse Guard? Why it didn't live to your standards and do you have any intention of revisiting it? As far as I can tell the premise was very interesting. Cannot wait to read Skyward, seems epic

message 14: by Mitch (new)

Mitch I can't wait for another trip with Wax and Wayne. The wait on that one is brutal.

Toni Any news on a second Rithmatist?

Read his blog State of the sandersonfor 2017. He has bad news I'm afraid, The rithmatist is going to take time due to how much he would have to investigate mayan and aztec cultures and he wants to get it right. That being the case Rithmatist is taking a back seat to everything else. Check out his blog for more info

Ron And here I am. Still waiting for The Dark One to be written...

message 20: by Toni (new)

Toni Thank you. I had read that but was hoping we had moved closer to it. I loved Rithmatist. sigh.

You know he intends to have plans to bring Mistborn to a more contemporary setting right? The next Mistborn trilogies will be in a contemporary setting and then the next plan is to do a sci fi Mistborn trilogy. So do not worry, we are getting quite a few more books in that universe :)

Nicholas Fielding Brandon's setup of suspense game = over level 9000

Andrew You're the best most productive fantasy writer in the business. Pat Rothfuss, take note.

Lakshman ^ true, waiting for kingkiller #3. Also add Scott Lynch to the list.

Hyped for mistborn, the mystery unravels? No, 'builds up' would be more apt since the story still is expanding and with a new timeline series yet to reach our hands XD
