Cliche? Or Riveting?

When I was a teen taking a creative writing class, I began a story like that. Yep. No kidding. It was a great story. Although...my teacher said it was a great story, she asked if it was true?
It had to be true?
All my stories are true, to an extent. When I envision a place, I research and use details to describe it. Even if I have been there before, I still research it for more details. Even if it's a made up fantasy world, or even if it's a made up place in our world, I research to get a feel for what the setting would be like. Or costumes. Or even people's appearances by finding pictures of people that would suit the characters.
And what about people? Sure. Well, they're not real people, but a conglomeration of real people characteristics.
How many do you know are list makers, who are anal about having everything done just so? How many are braggarts that know everything and anything and if you ask a question, he'll have an answer for you, whether he knows the truth or not? How many are obsessive nitnicks that have every clothes item organized by color in his closet? How many are the epitome of messiness that it is so bad, a path has to be made through the surging garbage to get to other rooms in the house? How many are unfaithful, yet want their cake and to eat it too? How many are shopaholics who have to have everything new, all the time?
These characteristics can describe thousands/millions of people. So they're real. They exist.
So here, let me tell you my story....
It was a dark and stormy night...
:)
Have a super hump day!!!
