Murakami’s Hard boiled Wonderland and the end of the world is my favorite of his.(& one of my favorite books I’ve read) I remember reading it & thinking that it was the kind of work that I would like to get close to someday in my own work. 

But some other good books. Anything by Raymond Chandler-

Ursula K. Le Guin, I really like Heinlein’s Moon is a harsh mistress, Charles Stross Laundry files and Glasshouse are both great. Anything by William Gibson ,
