A New Look at Harlem's Ballet Trailblazer

'When he joined the New York City Ballet in 1955, Arthur Mitchell quickly became the company's first African-American principal dancer. Mitchell's long career in ballet, both performing and teaching, is the subject of a new exhibit now open at Columbia University's Wallach Art Gallery: "Arthur Mitchell: Harlem's Ballet Trailblazer."'
