Yesterday, someone asked me this question. I wasn't quite sure if he was asking me why I wrote
a book or
this book in particular. So my answer covered both. First, I said I did not write this book for any pleasure such as seeking notoriety (in fact I resent giving up my anonymity) or monetary gain (sales and royalties are under $1000.) I wrote to challenge myself, my skills and knowledge of history, grammar and vocabulary and my creativity to try to capture a feeling, a spirit of a little town and its people. I confess it has been very gratifying to hear readers tell me they enjoyed it--the characters, the history, the story, my style. So as to why I wrote this particular book
The Last Frontier of the Fading West: I was so captivated by this place, I wanted to share both my experience of it and the life satisfaction I feel here with others. This small rural community on the very edge of the continent is a very special place indeed.
