Samhain and The Goddess
"The blood which runs in us is born of the blood of our Earthly Mother. Her blood… babbles in the brooks of the mountains; flows wide in the rivers of the plains; sleeps in the lakes; rages mightily in tempestuous seas."
These are words from a third century Aramaic manuscript that were translated by Edmond Bordeaux Szekely. The texts go on to say that the air we breathe is born of the breath of our Earthly Mother… the hardness of our bones is born of the rocks and of the stones, the tenderness of our flesh is born of the flesh of the fruits of our Earthly Mother.
In honor of Samhain, otherwise known as Halloween, and the darkening days when the Goddess bids we go within the Self, take a moment to reflect that, just as we are born of our physical mothers, we are also born of our Earthly Mother. Think how different our world might be if honoring our Earthly Mother was considered a privilege and, indeed, an act of love as was originally intended.
Let`s look at the Feminine/Goddess/Divine Mother qualities. These qualities are, among others, creative, intuitive, and receptive.
The Feminine/Goddess/Divine Mother energy is creative. Honor the Goddess this Samhain by being creative yourself. Think of some truly triumphant moments in your life. You were most likely flowing with abundant creativity. Creating and being creative is quite euphoric -- because it is Goddess energy!
Intuition is another aspect of the Goddess, and Samhain is a wonderful time of year to be in touch with your intuitive side, and receptive to your intuitive powers. Think of the phrase, “It suddenly came to me…” From where? Feel how our language perfectly describes the receptive aspect of intuition. You don`t go out and get an idea; it comes to you. Feel the difference when trying to remember a dry textbook, which expends energy, and reading for pleasure. The words in the novel you read for pleasure create pictures, fully detailed characters and locations, and it is effortless; the pictures come to you. That is receptive energy -- effortless. Perhaps that`s why intuition or psychic abilities are called a Gift. It is something you receive.
Honoring the Divine Mother, our Mother Earth, and the Feminine principles of creativity, intuition, and receptivity is an excellent way to bring the Goddess to your Samhain works and rites.
Wishing You Warm Hearths and a Blessed Samhain,
Sally
