Making amends

This message is for my fellow Eagles fans. It is so unfair that a small minority of badly behaving idiots can tarnish the reputation of an entire fan base, even an entire city. Because the national media can be a bit lazy, they continue to dredge up the same old stories about rude Eagles fans; since the booing Santa Claus incident occurred 50 years ago, surely the statute of limitations applies there. But once again some drunken louts gave the city of Philadelphia and the team another black eye by harassing Vikings fans on Sunday. Fortunately it was not widespread, but that does not matter. It is infuriating, especially since the Eagles players are such a good group, very active in community service, visiting hospitals and the Ronald MacDonald House and schools and reaching out to those in need. One of our players, Chris Long, even donated his entire year’s salary to help schools in Philadelphia and several other cities. They deserve better than that. So do the rest of the Eagles fans and most definitely the Vikings fans who were hassled by these jerks. I apologize on behalf of Eagles Nation and I hope all of my fellow Eagles fans who agree with me will do what I did: make a donation to Mike Zimmer’s Foundation. Here is the link for those who are interested. https://www.mikezimmerfoundation.org/ Go, Birds!
PS To my Boston friend, Linda, we’ll have to agree to be frenemies this week.

Therese Unfortunately it happens (I don't know where the rest of my post went) in almost every fan base of every sport and the idiots get the attention. Kudos to you for giving the spotlight on a positive feature.

Sharon Credit initially goes to fans of the Buffalo Bills, Therese. They were so happy to make the playoffs for the first time in decades that they donated money to the charitable foundation started by the Bengals QB, Andy Dalton; in winning their game, the Bengals had made it possible for the Bills to get in to the postseason games. But fans of the Minnesota Vikings took it a step farther. They defeated the New Orleans Saints in a heartbreaking last-second loss for the Saints. When they learned that the Saints' punter had played injured, they started donating money to a charity he supported. After some Eagles fans acted like vandals invading Rome, Eagles fans started donating to the foundation of the coach of the Minnesota Vikings to make amends. I hope Eagles fans keep doing that. You'd be surprised how much money can be raised for good causes. The foundation of the Bengals QB received over $350,000 dollars! And the Vikings fans raised well over $100,000 for the Saints punter. He in turn donated that money to a Minnesota charity. Because the Eagles were the underdogs in their playoff games, two of their players wore dog masks after their victory and suddenly Eagles fans were racing over to buy them on Amazon, much to the amazement and delight of the small company in China that made them. These same two players put out an underdog tee-shirt, with all the proceeds going to the Philadelphia school system, over $50,000. I just love this new trend; it is such a fun way to raise money for those in need.

Therese I don't follow football, but the Los Angeles Kings in the NHL have my heart. When they won the Cup for the first time against all odds, I saw some wonderful things and continue to see all sorts of fundraisers when anything happens i.e. mass shootings, fires, mudslides, etc.

message 4: by Sharon (new)

Sharon I confess I don't follow hockey, Therese. But now that I know the Kings are your team, I'll be happy when they win.

message 5: by Therese (new)

Therese Well, that makes us even because I know nothing about football. Still I will be rooting for your Eagles because winning it all is a joy that everyone should experience at least once :-)

Sharon Thanks, Therese. It is a little scary how much this means to Eagles fans,

message 7: by Therese (new)

Therese Congratulations to you and your Eagles! I'm so happy for you. You were the first (and only) one I thought of when I heard of your victory. Enjoy!

message 8: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Thank you, Therese! People are so excited here. I think one reason sports fans become so emotionally invested in a team is that it is a means of bonding with family, friends, and often total strangers. So many people teared up talking about the victory, saying they wished their fathers or mothers had lived to see it.

Therese I understand 100% having gone through it for the first time in 2012. I never would have imagined that it would happen, let alone that it would be that joyful. Celebrate! Drink every moment in. I know you will.
