Xo, Zach. My Review

Xo, Zach
by Kendall Ryan

The first time we met was at a party.

Your ex arrived to show off the person he’d left you for last month, and you asked me to pretend to be your date.

I was more than happy to help. You were attractive, smart and witty–and that kiss we shared? It left me wanting you for days.

The second time we met was in my office on campus where we were both surprised to discover you were the new master’s degree student in poetry that I would be working with. You promised to be professional. I did no such thing.

The late nights and intense study sessions spent alongside you majorly throw me off my game. I want you, and I fight with myself daily over this fact.

I know I’m crass, that my sexual innuendos and dirty mouth annoy you, but I live for those two bright spots of color in your cheeks. If that’s the only reaction I can get out of you, I’ll gladly take it.

You hate Mondays so every Monday I slip an anonymous poem into your bag and your smile gets me through the week.

I think I’m falling for you, and I know it’s wrong. I know that I’m only supposed to be your adviser and nothing more, but here’s the thing. I think you’re falling for me too.

xo, Zach

My Review

Xo, Zach is an awesome contemporary romance by the wonderful Kendall Ryan. This is one of those romances that actually start at the end of the story, but the beginning, the actual beginning, its at a party. As our heroine, Poppy, tries to dodge her ex she runs into the hottest guy in campus, Zach. And even if they don’t exchange numbers, they found a way to meet again.

“Poppy. You told him if it was meant to be you’d see each other again. It’s totally meant to be.”

Unfortunately for these guys (fortunately for us), Zach and Poppy meet again, but it isn’t exactly the easiest and happies reunion. It turns out that while Poppy is a grad student at a great university, Zach is a teacher and adviser… her adviser.

Hey, can we talk?

Yes, I though, breathing out a sigh of relief, I am more than ready to move on from this. Another text came in.

I need to clear the air.

I agree, I started to type a response. I could only assume he was prepared to apologize for how our last meeting went. Before I could hit send, my phone lit up again with a new message.

I’m majorly fucking attracted to you.

Zach Austin is one hot teacher. The kind any kind of girl would fall for. He’s handsome, intelligent, thoughtful and so very full of surprises. If it was for him, and even if he’s done his research about their relationship in order not to get themselves in trouble, he would be with Poppy from day one. But then have more than their school role to think about.

I was more than just attracted to Zach, I was really falling for him.

Poppy Ellis has a lot on her plate. Not only because she was to work a lot to be able to study, but because she’s also a single mother. So even if she’s very much attracted to her adviser, she needs to take in mind her career and her kid.

“So, you’re the hot adviser?” He winked at me, and I couldn’t help my answering chuckle.

“That’s me. Just your friendly neighborhood hot adviser.” I was dying to know what else Poppy told them.

Poppy and Zach have a great group of people around them, from parents to friends. Their interactions with them are hilarious, specially Poppy’s friends. Not to mention how they support each other and keep pushing Zach and Poppy for the relationship they ought to have.

“You told me to move on, that we couldn’t be together. What was I supposed to do? Wait for you? You were very clear, Poppy. It doesn’t matter how much I want you, if you don’t want me back….”

It takes some time, a major leap of faith and patience to have these two together. But is totally worth it. I really enjoyed the interaction between this to great characters and ask you to please give them a chance. You won’t regret it.

Because despite not actually being with Poppy, she owned me.
