An Emerald Abyss
I’m excited to get this book out everywhere and then of course nervous-excitement while I wait for some reviews!I’m a veteran from the 80’s. I served with the 82nd airborne-we conducted some difficult and dangerous training, but I never served during combat operations. This book and my feeling behind the writing are very strong; I hope that it bleeds through the pages.“Yes but Mark, didn’t you get some assistance from the veterans administration?”-You asked.Ok, sure I did, but one of the first things they did was to run me all around NY State, giving me appointments in Rochester, Canandaigua, and Buffalo and they sent me letters informing me that a missed appointment meant that I would forfeit all benefits.“Obviously they sent you to see specialist-right?”-you ask.One of the appointments I went to I sat for hours in the dark depressing waiting area looking up eagerly each time a nurse came out from behind the doors to call a name. Finally a man, clearly in his seventies, opened the door and called my name. I followed him down a very dark and empty hallway; I remember thinking how strange that the place seemed nearly deserted- you just expect it to be like a bustling ant hill behind those doors? Also it took a long time because the gentleman walked like Tim Conway used to for the “old man” skits on the Carol Burnett show-seriously!I thought to myself how nice it was that they gave some older veterans a job around the facility- then the old guy let out a very brassy, loud, and rumbling fart. He didn't bother to even look around just kept shuffling forward.Yea, I was following.Anyway he tells me to take a seat in a room and I sit staring at the door for another half hour.In walks the “old guy” now in his white lab coat? He was the doctor! He looked at my knee and I was out in five minutes. (I had been examined by the best at Womack Army Medical Center.)Anyway- please enjoy An Emerald Abyss, (paperback within a few weeks!) but also keep in mind the men and women that give/gave so much to ensure that our Country remains safe and free. And always- I’m trying to entertain you, please tell me how I’m doing by sending an email or heading to my author page at Facebook (a review would be nice)!Thank you.
