Reading Genres & Other Stuff

With all the calls for submissions that are being posted on here, I haven't really had time to do any blog posts. Hopefully with the new year I will be able to post more often on here, not only with new blog posts but also with new calls for submissions.

For those that don't know, I've been extremely busy with working on various projects for Armoured Fox Press, as well as trying to get at least a couple stories out there for my own writing. This has seen some marginal success, but also has created the writer's worst enemy, writer's block. Not such a bad thing when there's typesetting to finish, editing to do, and such, but it can be a downer.

A small publisher 4 hours north of where I live had to shut down her company after only a couple years of being active due to family issues as well as an inability to do her own writing. Though saddening, I can completely understand. She's back now with a new publishing company, but I have to admit that it makes me a bit gun-shy about publishing anything with them. It's sort of a cautionary tale for Armoured Fox to say the least. Much to be said, it makes me want to work harder at my own company to make sure things get out on time. I am learning some of this for the first time, which is why there have been some delays, to which I apologize to those it affects who may be reading this blog post. I will be trying to keep on my timelines a lot harder in the new year.

Beyond that, those that have known me for awhile know that I tend to read genres in spurts and tend to read a number of books at once. The last few have been fantasy, horror-fantasy, weird westerns, kaiju, and now it seems super heroes. (again, cause I did this a few years back) Unlike my previous genre readings, this one is not attached to any stories I want to write, which is my usual driving force behind reading a genre. (though I can blame My Hero Academia, Vol. 01's anime for this one)

All in all, I am excited for the new year. Armoured Fox's first convention is coming up in June, a couple stories I wrote will see publication, and the slightly delayed books from Armoured Fox will see print. (finally!) I still have a bit of work ahead of me, but now that I have an idea of what I need to do, I can push forward with more confidence and more skills.

Until my next post, keep reading and have yourself a wonderful new year!
