Published in 2017. This story starts in Washington, D.C. when a terrorist meets with the Deputy National Security Advisor outside of a bar. He makes a vague threat to attack the U.S., but provides no specifics. The Deputy doesn’t ignore it, but no alert can be issued without a specific threat. Meanwhile, Joe Rush and his partner, Eddie Nakamura, both former Marines, have been in Brazil studying the latest forms of malaria when Eddie mysteriously vanishes. Joe begins an urgent search to find his friend, only to find that he’s been captured by terrorists, intent on spreading an unknown form of malaria to the world.
I enjoyed this book. Lots of action and interesting situations. I was a little confused by the title because I thought it had to do with the helicopter on the cover. In fact, it didn’t. Vector has another meaning: an organism that carried pathogens from one host to another. In this case, it was a mosquito. I’m not sure why there’s a helo on the cover because that wasn’t even the mode of transport used in most of the book. At any rate, this is an interesting read. I'd give it five stars.
