Have you read Metabarons? and if so would you recommend it?

I’m not a huge fan of it.

A lot about the writing in it bothers me– It’s narrated by a pair of obnoxious robots “oh no! my diodes can’t take this story!”  & it feels like Jodorowsky is just writing stream of consciousness with resolves to story problems just coming out of nowhere.

I will say, Juan Gimenez is unarguably an fantastic illustrator. His work on the series alone might make it worth getting a copy for.

It’s my theory that Jodorowsky works much better within the limits of film than he does with the freedom of comics. I think about the man with no arms and the man with no legs in El Topo and how he had to find real humans to pull that off.

I think If it wasn’t tied to the legacy of Metal Hurlant & Moebius I would give it an easier pass- I mean, just looking through pages again now, I’m blown away by how pretty it is.

People compare Prophet a lot to it, so that might be where some of my dismissal comes from, I had the same high stakes when I read Tekkonkinkreet after hearing my King city compared to it so many times.
