Thoughts for the Day

As often is the case with my insanely sporadic brain, I have more thoughts in my mind than I can possible let out in a neatly orchestrated fashion. I want to write. So I plan to as soon as I finish this blog. On that note, I wrote 1900 words yesterday which is NOT ENOUGH since I keep playing scenes over and over in my head so I don't forget them. BUT as life stuff tends to get in the way sometimes, I had very little time to write so it was a good thing that the words came out fast and that I am a fast typist. I don't know how many words the new MS has since I am doing each chapter as a separate document. I am trying to just WRITE the scenes that form in my mind and not worry about WHERE they go in the story as yet. I need to fill in details and edit structure, but that will come with time. I just feel pressured. (Not in a bad way.) I WANT to get something finished and submitted, like riding a wave on the beach.

People are talking. People are talking about my book and my writing and my style etc and I guess I want to hit that wave before it dies out. When Love is Not Enough is not in the top 25 any longer. I think it lasted a week and a half so I guess that's good. Seems good. But now that it is fading slightly, I want something else in there to stir up the mix. The goal of the new MS? To show I can write a broad spectrum of emotion. Not just pain and suffering.

If the world like light and fluffy (as opposed to deep and scary) I can give them that too!

Although, I have to admit to a certain amount of pleasure I get from making people angry. (Is that sadistic?) Stirring up emotion is what I wanted to do with my writing. To make people laugh, to make people cry, to make them so crazy they scream! I think if a book can do that, then the writer succeeds. For me, I can't finish a book that is boring. I can read a book if I am not absorbed into the characters, the story, the circumstance, and sometimes the sex. I want it all. I want to feel a part of it. I want to hate characters and shake them. I want to taste the sex. I want to cry when they hurt until I am embarrassed to do so.

Do you get what I mean?

So, as I read reviews on my book, I am learning that I am not so hung up on "star" ratings. DO I WANT 5 STARS EVERY TIME? Heck yeah! But does it crush me when I don't? No, not anymore. Why? I am reading what people write. They are sooooo stirred up that they HATE my characters! Hate is a pretty strong emotion. Very few comment about the characters being boring or not relating and needing to stop reading from disinterest. (which is good) Lots of people, however, FEEL the story. They relate to characters or circumstances. Some people said I made them think. BINGO! I accomplished what I set out to do :)

So... bare with me. Writing takes time, but more than that--publishing takes time. Once I get a MS (manuscript) finished, and then edited to my best ability, I will submit it to Dreamspinner Press. (Love those people) From there, it could take MONTHS! I hate to tell you that, but it is true. I will not be publishing anything else this year. (2011) *sad face* So, we will just have to chat, and I will blog, and I will let you all know (my following of 19 fans) where I am and what is happening on the writing front.

I will try my darnedest to write EVERY DAY and get stories completed in a timely manner and NOT drag my butt and play Xbox all day. (Not that I do that now)

Stay tuned. what's that saying? "Good things come to those who wait." Hopefully you find that to be true!

Mika I am a voracious reader who reads practically every day. Most books do not elicit an emotional response in me. It is not a requirement for me to enjoy the book, but I have learned that I rarely remember the ones that do not engage me emotionally. It’s been over a month since I’ve read When Love is Not Enough. I can still remember how I felt while reading it. I still think about Jaime and what his life was like. Tears still fall when I think about certain scenes. And it is not only the emotional scenes that I remember, but also the quiet ones that allow you learn about those boys.

This is why it is good to be the kind of writer who can engage the reader. Not everyone has to like it, but if the story can stir up someone’s emotion then they are more apt to think about things. If they think then they will remember you. If they remember you, they will buy your next book. Hate is a pretty strong emotion, but happiness – happiness can brighten horizons and make one feel almost invincible. I truly believe that you’ll be able to emotionally engage a reader even if the world is light and fluffy.

As you strive to continue feeding our soul with your words remember to feed yourself. It will do you no good if you become malnourished. LOL, It seems like the gals have no problem breaking out the belt. Which then makes me think of a utility belt. You could get one that has snacks and drinks on it and then you'll always have something on hand.
