Do not go gentle into that good night
Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rage at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, and learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, Rage against the dying of the light!
By Dylan Thomas – Born in 1914 for just a moment of time leaving for eternity in 1953. Dylan left us with many writings but "Do not go gentle into that good night" is a poem in the form of a villanelle, and the most famous work of this Welsh poet leaving a mystery for some say he wrote this about his fathers death and yet his father did not leave time for eternity till 1952; five years after the writing of this poem!
So we are left with a mystery and living words telling you and I to live life to the fullest, to not give in to death but to boldly fight. A cry from the soul of man to not just "go gentle into that good night," but to rage against it; to fight against it even when the end of life calls and your work is not finished to not give in to the night call of death; finish the work and go in peace to the eternity of a good soul made whole.
