If you are a strong fan of Nora romances and expect this to be the same, you will be sorely disappointed. If you thought The Circle Trilogy or Divine Evil was too dark, you will not like this book. HOWEVER, if you are willing to read this book with an open mind, you are in for one incredibly wild read! (Remember, I do not read Apocalyptic or Dystopian, so this was a HUGE jump out of my comfort zone to read with an open mind.)
Have you ever read a book that consumed you so much that you empathize with the characters, feel their pains, their stuggles, their joys, their being? I LIVED THIS BOOK!!! She pulled me into the characters, the storyline, the sights as if I was living the end of the world too! I SMELLED what she was describing, I GAGGED at what the characters gagged at, I CRIED with the extreme sorrow the characters felt, I felt JOY with the joy they felt. She made me believe in faeries, and witches, and pure black evil. She gave the true reality that there is no longer a "happily ever after." Life goes on, and changes with it. Most importantly, she reminds us that despite evil all around, there is good out there somewhere, it just has to be sought after.
My only disappointment with this book, I felt there were way too many characters introduced in the Prologue to keep straight, and towards the end, it was difficult to keep all the minor characters straight as they all come together.
Nora has taken a tremendous jump in her writing style and has proven she has become a MASTER in the trait of story telling. Some have compared this book to some of Stephen King's horror books. I wouldn't call it horror. It didn't cause me to lose sleep, but it is hauntingly disturbing.
A ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ is not enough for this book. It truly is in a league of its own. Definitely a MANAGERS CHOICE for 2017 for my store! And, with the exception of one of Serena Chase's books (The Remedy), it blows all of my other Choices of the past out of the water.
I hope you will anticipate it's release in December, and jump on board with Nora in this new journey she is on. You won't be disappointed!
(Thank you to Marissa at St. Martin's Press for the incredible opportunity to receive an Advanced Readers Copy!)

For me, this book reminded me of Stephen King’s The Stand. I am not a Stephen King fan but I loved The Stand. However, I love the differences in both books. I have been reading Nora Roberts for more than 25 years and anxiously await a new book as soon as I’m done with the one I read.
I loved all the characters in this book. The rebuilding of society and the power struggle. This book is worth reading. This one is definitely going in my top favorites for Nora Robert’s.
