Near

The warmth of the fire when I sit close

The baby’s smell when I kiss his head

The feel of God’s kiss when He brushes wind against my cheek

The rush of hope as a goal comes within sight

Near as our breath, He is

Hovering over us like a protective new parent

Guardian angel unfelt but present

The communion of saints so very close

The smell of yeast bread moments before the timer

The salty air in nostrils on beach walks

The presence of deceased loved ones on special days

Relationships grown cold in need of nurturing
