#Reader Question: Does it matter if you’re familiar with the city in which a story takes place? #amwriting

I have to confess, if I’m writing about a city in a book, the chances are that I’ve been there. It’s incredibly hard to write about locations that you haven’t actually seen or experienced. Google can only do so much as regards to the atmosphere or vibe of a certain place. Yes, you can flick through some photos, research a restaurant online and read through some travel guides – but the experience is rather two dimensional.
