The reveal.

Two weeks ago, as you know, I had surgery to correct my deviated, tilted septum.

Here is how I look, and an update of my recovery. Oh, and course, my crazy pink hair!

It’s been a bit since I got the cast removed, but I’m not going to lie – it’s been quite difficult to feel like myself as when I look in the mirror, I don’t recognise how I look.

It may be a small change to others, but to me, the nose looks very different: don’t get me wrong, I’m extremely happy to see it so straight, for basically the first time in my life, but when it’s something so central, that you can’t help but see when looking at yourself, it’s a very surreal experience.

I may be the only person on this planet, but I truly prefer wider noses, so when the cast came off and my ‘squared’ nose looked so slim, it was a bit of a shock – I cannot seem to get used to it just yet.

After only two weeks it’s impossible to tell how the final result will look like, as it’s sore and swollen (even just washing my face hurts if I’m not gentle) but let me go through both health and cosmetics ups and downs.

HEALTH

The surgery I had was a septorhinoplasty; which means the most important aspect of it was to remove anything in the way and open up passages in order for me to breathe properly. Most of the work was done on the left nostril, and I can feel it as that side feels a lot more sore at the moment.

I have been able to breathe through both nostrils well enough, although with all the swelling and dissolvable stitches still in place, I don’t get plenty of air. I expect this to get better with time, and I’m simply glad both nostrils are getting air to begin with.

My only fear is that – as the previous time I went through this – as the nose heals it will start bending again, closing one of the nostrils. We can’t know just yet, but I’m really hoping that won’t happen.

I have been using saline spray to help with adding moisture back into the nostrils, because it feels so dry and tight in there, but overall my recovery has gone very smoothly – I barely even bruised (just some yellow under eyes and tip of the nose) which I’ve never seen before from any other people that shared their experiences.

COSMETIC

Because my septum was so tilted, we had to address it and bring it back to the centre, changing the overall look of the nose. I’ve also told my surgeon that he could do what made sense in order to give me a nose that would suit my face – I did not ask for a slimmer nose, and did not really expect to see one, so as I mentioned before, I am a bit sad to see my old shape gone.

Right now, the front looks slim, but my profile view is not great. The bridge of my nose is taller – and having a medium/tall nose to begin with, seeing it this big makes me feel self-concious, to be honest.

As soon as I saw that, I made sure to ask if he added any cartilage to it, but he said he didn’t, so my bridge should go back to my original size eventually.

I also still can’t fully move my top lip, so any time I speak or smile with my teeth showing, I look insane. I’m hoping this will resolve soon so I can get back into making videos!

Today – it being a Saturday –  I wanted to get out of the house and do something fun.

Felix drove me and the pugs to Camber Sands, where we enjoyed a freezing yet sunny day by the sandy dunes.

We all love it there, it’s so calm and peaceful.

So, even though I feel strange, I’m getting back to normal, happy that the worst part has passed, and now I just have to wait a year or so for the swelling to go down and hope no issues will come up.

So here you go, that’s it for my little reveal, I will of course see more of me soon anyway!

But, if you are only here because you were curious about my hair, I’ve used the dark pink box dye by Bleach London; I expected it to be more intense, and not pastel, which is why I applied it and kept it on for only 5 minutes (instead of the 30 minutes you are supposed to) and OOPS. But hey, at least it will fade into a softer pink with each wash.

Again, thank you all so much for the support during my surgery, it truly helped me get through it with a positive mindset and felt like I made the right choice!
