In The Zone

I believe in spirits, not ghosts.

The forest across the way, with its intoxicating
smells, stirred up his mood and made him more decisive.
He looked forward to spending the rest of his day on the
beach, enjoying the sun’s rays and the heat, waiting
patiently for the girl of his dreams.
“Live your life to the fullest,” Taylor whispered in
his ear and managed to surprise him.
“I will do it,” he said and smiled.
“Life is beautiful. We are still alive. Don’t waste
your time thinking about the difficulties at school and the
other nasty facts. And I don’t think grades are everything,”
Taylor said and pulled her black hair away from her sweet
face, watching his big eyes.
“You are right.” Richard shook his head and felt
wonderful, ready to confess his secret.
“It is time for you to take off your T-shirt,” Taylor
said and left her white shorts on her towel.
“It’s great just to be here with you,” he said while
she ran toward the sea.
The following minutes, the curious teenagers kept
having fun and didn’t care about anything other than
swimming and playing in the cold water. They had never
forgotten the time they were small kids when they used to
play with the sand along with their parents. Now, they
loved being there alone, spending some untroubled
moments far away from their homes and parents. They
couldn’t stop laughing and teasing one another.
Richard realized there was no reason to worry or be
nervous. He was not the only one who had feelings in his
heart. Taylor seemed to like his company and he guessed
she would never let him come face-to-face with his day-today
fears. Her smile had made his inner voice stop telling
him that she would reject him, preventing her from
butchering his feelings.
