Case Closed
It’s rather a sad feeling to come to the end of an era. Finishing a book is one thing, finishing a whole series hurts doubly. It’s come that, almost. Book five in the Tractus Fynn Mystery series nears completion. I hope to publish Red City this winter.
Of course there are several juicy mysteries for Inspector Fynn to unravel, as always. Mysteries fit for any great detective, but in terms of alternate history this is my most ambitious work to date.
The research was killer: Rewriting the history of Pearl Harbor, tracking down Clair Patterson and Vasili Arkhipov— both obscure men who saved the world. Traveling to Japan in the present, in the 1960s, and the postwar occupation was a daunting task.
And what was the average life like in the middle of the Soviet Union during the Cold War? I’m still not sure I know, but I’ve written a good approximation and come to grips with the Russian system of patronymic names.
It’s sad to see Tractus Fynn leaving the scene and the host of crazy characters he’s encountered. And while all these books received some critical acclaim, readership falls short of expectations with only a few thousand downloads.
It’s time to move on to something else, something no doubt even less profitable.
