Overcoming mid-project/semester slumps!

Overcoming those mid-project/mid-semester blues can be tough...The beginning of the term or a new endeavor is exciting! At the start, I have all my goals laid out and am ready to tackle them. As time goes on though, maybe there are setbacks, or maybe I’ve got the big things checked off the list and there are the small mundane details to finish up, and I begin to feel less motivated. Sometimes I’m tired, or burned out, over-stressed with other commitments, and become overwhelmed or unmotivated.

This fall, I noticed my zeal for a new project waning. I had a major disappointment with another undertaking, and although I only had like 20% to finish, I began to slack off. But I’m not one to quit things, so I kept muddling through. It wasn’t until I got some time away, that I realized my sadness over the other setback was affecting me more than I thought.

I started searching for how to get over that mid-way slump. First, I owned being bummed over my setback, then I took to heart a comment a friend made. “That was one thing,” she said. “It doesn’t mean the next one will be the same.” AKA, I took stock, and got some inspiration.
