Statement from the author of THE MAN WITH THE SEPTEMBER FACE
In my forthcoming work of fiction, THE MAN WITH THE SEPTEMBER FACE, a disillusioned FBI agent makes arrangements to release a potentially explosive dossier upon his death. He decides the time has come to put the full weight and authority of his 30+ years in law enforcement behind what he knows will be likely dismissed as an improbability: the truly dark and twisted motives that surrounded the assassination of JFK.
Today, the last of the JFK assassination documents, which have been locked up for more than 50 years, were to have been released in full today. However, stop the presses: there's been a delay. Even though these files have been available to the intelligence agencies that are worried about them for the past 25 years, there's been a last-minute appeal to hold some of them back in the interest of that timeworn, good old chestnut of "national security."
So, I'd just like to say "thank you" to the United States Government for once again showing yourself to be the same bunch of incompetent, selfish, hypocritical boobs that I always knew you were. In my book- a work of fiction that I've been working on for several years- your higher-ups are depicted as carrying on a grand tradition of somehow keeping the most undesirable and unqualified people in positions of power. Today, in an act that actually defies law, you have done little more than just reinforce what everyone knows about you, regardless of what these files actually hold.
