To best describe the land of Runeterra
would be a realm of incredible latent magic energy. Power flows through the very
land itself, residing within every pebble and blade of grass. And of course the institute of war sought a
way to harness this power; to turn it into a weapon. Only few individuals were
gifted with magic at birth, so the institute sought a way to forcibly draw it
out and store it as a resource for non-magic users.Crystals and gems alike became the perfect
container to make socketed weapons and armor imbued with great mystical power. But
the institute didn’t stop there. Rivaling factions would battle for dominion
over lands to extract their power into a gigantic crystal called a
“nexus.”From this a new class of mages were born;
the summoner. These mages did not operate or control the nexus, instead they
channeled its energies to call forth champions from across the land and
transport them directly into the battlefield as their conjured minions raged
across the lanes in waves trying to push back the enemy’s forces.Today was the beginning of such a battle.
Many champions from across the globe had been called forth to participate in “the
Battle for the Summoner’s Rift,” a gigantic forest landscape in which two
nexus crystals contested for the area. Five champions appeared on each side,
ready to begin the war. As there were no actual soldiers but magically created
“minions” fighting, the champions alone would be the deciding factor
in this war.
