I'm thinking of branching out into soft romance books... any writing suggestions and tips? I'm not really overflowing with romantic experience if you know what I mean.

Thanks for the question!

Hahaha I definitely know what you mean. I might be married now, but I remember my hopeless romantic days very well. The lack of “real life experience” can be daunting. But, I mean, writing is all about imagination.

First tip, read. All the reading. I love curling up with a good soft romance book and feeling all the feels. We learn how to write first by reading.

When writing: Write what you dream about. You might not have experience, so write about what you wish would happen. Your ideal romantic situation.

Soft romance is all about characterization. Writers want a couple they can root for. We want something sweet and lovely that reminds us of how wonderful it is to be in love. That’s one of the best parts of being human, after all.

Write fearlessly!! Especially in the first draft, never be afraid to write what you want. There is always time to edit, but try to remove any self doubt or criticism during the initial creative period. Just write, write, write. Practice makes perfect, after all.

Again, thank you for the question! If you have any more, I’d be happy to answer them :) I have lots of experience in writing and publishing fiction. If you ever want me to check out any of your work, I’d be glad to ^^ (that goes for all my followers!)
