The Navajo Code Talkers

The Navajo code was never broken by the Axis powers throughout World War II. It was created among speakers who were fluent in both Navajo and English. Who were the code talkers? Young men who had gone to government Indian boarding schools as children. While there, they dared speak their language to each other to ease their homesickness, they were punished. Sometimes their teachers would wash their mouths with harsh Fels Naphtha soap. How ironic that as young men they used their bilingual ability to help us win the war!Eileen Charbonneau I'll Be Seeing You Eileen Charbonneau Watch Over Me
