Things in Whynot, NC have gone to the dogs, and that’s just the way the town’s only veterinarian, Laken Mancinkus, likes it. I'm loving this alter ego that's being written because although it's Sawyer Bennett...it really seems like a totally different author. These books are so different and down home from her hockey series that they have a real heartwarming feeling to them. Yes, Jake is an Alpha male, but he isn't really like all her other characters. He's playful and solid. He's a good guy. He may be a Yankee and there because he wants something for nothing but he's at least honest about it. Laken is good at being a veterinarian in the middle-of-nowhere NC and she loves what she does. What she doesn't like? She doesn't like things that cause permanence or so she thinks. She's a likable character and the interaction between her and Jake was always top notch. I loved that this book took place in my home state. For this being the second book in the series, it's my favorite so far!! Can't wait for the next one.
