Giveaway Complaint! Again!

My giveaway for two copies of On The Other Hand finished several minutes ago and yet AGAIN the winners entered in the LAST MINUTE - this happens for all my giveaways. As Goodreads closes giveaways at 8.00am (UK Time) odds are winners will be in the Unites States, which the majority of my winners are - both in this case. Goodreads, you're not listening and your system is not fair to ALL entrants.

Please see previous threads on this subject. First one is here.

Much love as always <3

G.R. Hewitt What do you have to say to that Goodreads?

message 2: by Mischenko (new)

Mischenko I wonder if you can contact one of the GR librarians about it? Seems strange!

message 3: by Renée (new)

Renée Paule I've written to them several times - they investigated and decided nothing was wrong. Hmmm Most unprofessional!

Hmm, that's not good. I hope they can figure it out. I wonder if there's someone else you can talk to about it?

message 5: by Renée (new)

Renée Paule I think I'll leave it to the Goodreads users. If enough take note, something will be done. I've put it on Twitter and Facebook too.

Renée Paule Hi Julianne,

Yes it is supposed to be random, but if you take look at the link to a previous blog post you'll see that it doesn't appear to be.

https://www.goodreads.com/author_blog...

I have posted a LOT of giveaways.

message 7: by Renée (new)

Renée Paule Here's hnow to let Goodreads know about it. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

message 8: by Jigme (new)

Jigme Datse I have a feeling that the "owners" of Goodreads really don't care that much about how "well" it runs. They are having a hard enough time with their main business interest, why put enough effort into fixing things for a "largely advertizing" property they own?

message 9: by Renée (new)

Renée Paule Jigme - there are a lot of threads about this. It is looking like Goodreads aren't listening :)

message 10: by Faith (new)

Faith I think it's just an artifact of the way winners are reported. I usually enter on the first day, and never enter seconds before winners are chosen, yet when I have won it has always shown that I entered at the last minute. I wouldn't worry about it.

I never noticed that. Where does it show that you entered at the last minute? Interesting.

message 12: by Faith (new)

Faith I don't remember because it has been a long time since I bothered to check, but it is probably either when I looked at the list of winners or when looking at the details of books I won. I'm sure the giveaways are not weighted towards the late entrants.

I see. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for sharing...

Renée Paule Faith.

As I said in my post (link above) "This has been the same for the 30 giveaways I have set up, for some 82 odd books, 100 percent of the time." That statistic has weight behind it.

:)

message 15: by Faith (new)

Faith If you want to believe that something nefarious is going on, I cannot convince you otherwise. What I believe is that there is a computing glitch that shows all winners as having entered at the same moment, when it just isn't true. The winners are all over the country/world. Do you really think they are all setting their alarm clocks so they can enter giveaways at 2, 3 or 4am just to win a book?

message 16: by Renée (new)

Renée Paule Faith.

What I believe is not important. I am just stating facts. It is for others to do with that information what they wish to do with it.

If you believe there's a glitch then that's okay and it may well be the case.

Thanks for the input.

Renée

message 17: by Scott (new)

Scott When I go looking for books to enter (and only ones I want to read) "Ending Soon" is the default when I go to giveaways and this is normally around 11pm-12am EST when I do this. This is normally 2-3 hours before the end at 3am EST. So perhaps many others are doing this as well?

My shelf is a little bare on here, though if you were to see my bookshelf here at home I am all over the place in the genres. I like to read about other religions, history, non-fiction, I love to cook so a few cook books. Mystery, horror, sci-fi is on my shelf. Books that teach something are there too. Old classics, fiction like Brad Metzer, King, Baldacci, and quite a few travel books.

If I enter for a romance or book geared towards women, often I am doing this to give to my Mom, Aunt, or Girlfriend.

Now, do you have some that just enter every single book just to win a book? I am sure this happens though.

message 18: by Renée (new)

Renée Paule Hi Scott,

Anything's possible, but I doubt a random angorithm would choose a winner who entered in the last few minutes 100% of the time - that is when there are only 1 or 2 books in the giveaway.

Do you win many?

message 19: by Scott (new)

Scott I would say less than once a month if that. It seems to go up if I review a book, and use the site more. I would say I find 5-10 I would be interested in reading when I go through those ending in the next 1-2 days. If I am wanting to remember to find it on Amazon later if I don't win.. then I will add it to "want to read" shelf.

message 20: by Renée (new)

Renée Paule I have three giveaways coming up next week - keep an eye out for them.

If they're not your thing then you might know someone who'd like them.

All the best to you,

Renée

message 21: by Ramona (new)

Ramona Wolter I guess I will never win on Goodreads. Different theories on how winners are chosen. Some keep winning and winning because of reviews on books they won and now this. Been entering giveaways for awhile now and no such luck. Oh well :(
