She Used to be a Man is a great short story by Nikki Crescent. I easily related to this story being the athlete in college and having an unusual roommate, but the thrill of this story for me was when a member of the family arrived for the weekend.  The title gives most of the story away, but Nikki builds up the characters at the beginning enough to keep you interested and then brings in raw emotion during the exciting moments of the story.
