When I already love an author, reviews don't do much for me. I'll still buy the book. But when I'm trying a new author then
reviews can mean a little more.
But I tend to discount five star reviews if that's all there are. No one in the world writes a book and truly get's ONLY legitimate five stars. I find that four and three star reviews tend to seem the most genuine.
As a reader I also mostly ignore all one and two star reviews that have people ranting and frothing at the mouth. The more gifs the less I pay attention. And as an author, I trust my readers can see through those people just as I can. Not that all one star or two star reviews are bad. Some people truly do dislike a book enough to give a one star and if they can write their review in a logical, normal person way, then I take it into consideration. In fact, sometimes those reviews will help me steer clear of books that I know would annoy the heck out of me.
How about you? As a reader, do you put all your weight on reviews? Or do you prefer to make up your own mind? Maybe you do what I do and if the review is well written that can sway you more? Let me know what you think about reviews. I love hearing your thoughts. :)
