Choosing Positivity - #WATWB

In No Refuge by Richard Bard – released on 15 August 2017 – the main characters are in a no-win situation. There is violence, false accusations, and much more surrounding their lives. There are also opportunities for them to help others and even though the risks are great, they make the choice to assist those in need. Like any family or group of friends they have their moments, including self-doubt, but when they look deeper they set aside the negative and find a positive way of viewing things.
I suspect much of this positive attitude despite negative influences is due to Mr. Bard’s own experiences. You see, he was diagnosed with cancer and given a short time to live. That was over 30 years ago. A few years back, he switched careers and began writing. His first book was Brainrush and now several years later, book six of the Brainrush series- No Refuge - is out and the finale will be released soon.
Why am I telling you about this author and his books? I admire him and his positive attitude. As fellow authors, we have interacted with each other over the years, each time I’ve come away feeling better for it. He puts his characters through all kinds of troubling situations, yet at the same time shows that even in the midst of darkness; people can find a ray of light and thus hope.
That’s the lesson I take away from reading his books. Maybe, we can all learn to find the ray of light to help us get through any dark times that we may find ourselves in. We can choose to help those in need where we are able. Though we may not be fictional characters that have insurmountable odds thrown at us willy-nilly, we do have those daily obstacles that can shake our positive outlook. It is up to us to choose to not let those obstacles stand in the way of our being positive, compassionate human beings.
One more thing, these characters and their creator have been in or around almost all the continents of our world. So, I think they will fit in here well. In addition to myself, this month's We Are The World Blogfest co-hosts are: Eric Lahti, Inderpreet Uppal, Mary J. Giese, and Simon Falk. Please take a moment or two to visit them.
