Ask Andrew - Is this Real?
Dear Andrew
Is anal sex really like its written in romance novels?
Thanks
Donna
Dear Donna
Okay. This is an interesting question and thank you for asking it. Sex in romance novels is often stylized in order to convey the emotion the author is trying to get across to the reader. With that said I can say that anal sex for men can be very pleasurable and exciting. However I do want to state that often a lot is made of the 'magic' spot. I can tell you that's the case for some men, but not all.
Some men are very sensitive and they derive a great deal of pleasure when the prostate on massaged. Those men can receive a great deal of sensation and it can be very exciting. This is the phenomenon most writers are referring to in their stories. (My husband is one of those men and he lets me know when things are just right for him.) Not all men derive the same pleasure.
With that said there is one other thing that I want to say. Sex is messy and not always perfect. Things happen and stuff can get squishy if you know what I mean. Those kinds of things are rarely discussed in romances because they get in the way and kill the mood. So as authors we tend to leave that stuff out. (Thank goodness. I only want to write the hot parts of sex. That's the fun.) So to answer your question, yes and no. The important thing is to get pleasure and happiness from the books and from sex. The rest is unimportant.
Hugs and love
Andrew
Ask Andrew is your chance to ask questions of a gay romance author. The questions can be about the writing process in general, writing sex scenes, gay men, sex, characters in romance, characters having sex... okay you probably get the picture. I promise to answer your questions as frankly and with as much humor as I possibly can.
So if you have a question, please send it to andrewgreybooks@comcast.net. This is different from my usual email so your questions don't get lost. I will answer one question a week.
Please remember this is meant to be all in fun. (I was going to say good, clean fun, but who wants that.) So send me your questions and let's see what mischief we can get into.
