Hello, Iceland.
Reykjavik, The Golden Circle, and Volcanos.

Felix and I celebrated 6 years together on the 19th of August, and as every year, we decided to go on a trip: this time, Iceland.

I’ve been wanting to visit it since, a few years ago, we watched The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

We arrived on Thursday afternoon, which gave us the chance to walk around the city centre and snap photos of all the colourful houses.

Reykjavik was so cute, and both Felix and I agree that it has a lot of similarities to Swedish cities.

The view you get from almost every street is unreal.

Another thing we noticed was all the cats chilling here and there; I hadn’t seen so many in a long time. I guess Brighton is not a place for outdoor cats.

On our first morning there, we planned an helicopter tour over the volcanos. We got a call, telling us that we had to move it later or maybe even cancelled, as the weather was too windy, so we checked out some churches, as well as the Whales of Iceland museum.

This was quite small, but the whales were enormous. Very cute place!

Luckily our helicopter tour didn’t get cancelled, and so we headed to the airport to catch our ride.

It was my first time being in one, and both Felix and I felt a bit nauseous, but it didn’t matter as the view was amazing, and we even got to land on a volcano!

The wind was insane, and it was very cold, but it was so cool to feel the warm rocks and take a walk in places that not many get to be at.

After the helicopter, we had a 6 hour car ride ahead, as we wanted to do The Golden Circle, so that we could see some waterfalls and geysers.

We made it to The Great Geysir at around 8pm, and managed to see it blow up a few times. Conveniently enough, right in front there is a cafeteria so we grabbed dinner, and then made our way to Gullfoss.

You could feel the water from far away.

Absolutely stunning.

As if the trip wasn’t amazing already, we even managed to spot some Northern Lights from the window of our hotel room, at around 1pm. We were both hoping we would, but we knew that in August it may be hard.
Seeing them was the most magical experience.

On our final day there, which was our anniversary, we booked a Whale Watching tour in the morning.
I was surprised by how many whales we managed to see, I imagined that we would see one jumping out of the water, but it was more like multiple ones just coming to the surface.
The boat ride, for me, was probably the most fun experience as I love going fast on boats, plus the weather was so sunny and there was almost no wind.
Felix and I also bought matching wool sweaters (typical and handmade in Iceland) as a memory and to wear on the day. They kept us very warm!

Later that day we drove to the Blue Lagoon, which was our final stop.
We had dinner at the Lava Restaurant, and then got to chill in the hot water.

We stayed almost 3 hours and didn’t want to leave, as this place was – once again – incredible, but it was the perfect ending to our trip.
Both Felix and I vlogged the whole thing, and I’ve just finished editing them both so you will have lots to see soon. I’m not going to lie, I’ve forgot to snap photos so this blog post isn’t the most detailed, but you will get to see everything we did in the videos!
Iceland was wonderful. I loved it.
Marzia.
