What do people want most in life?

“Everything you and I do springs from two motives: the sex urge and the desire to be great.”

Sigmund Freud

One more quote before I begin

Lincoln once began a letter saying: “Everybody likes a compliment.” William James said: “The deepest principle in human nature is the craving to be appreciated.” He didn’t speak, mind you, of the “wish” or the “desire” or the “longing” to be appreciated. He said the “craving” to be appreciated.

One more quote

there is one longing – almost as deep, almost as imperious, as the desire for food or sleep – which is seldom gratified. It is what Freud calls “the desire to be great.” It is what Dewey calls the “desire to be important.”

8 Things Dale Carnegie Got Right About Social Engagement

Yes all of us have a craving of ‘feeling great’. This is the chief driving force of Quora,Face book or all social media combined.Social media nourishes our ‘ego’.

The picture I post on FB has some sort of ego satisfaction inbuilt.Views and up votes on my answer (I may deny it publicly or others may also rule out) do feed my ego (In a very minute amount as I am following principle of Osho for long that ‘nothing is permanent’.).

It may not always feed my ego but it does trigger certain pleasure or reward neurons in my brain.

You got your answer.

More than sex

More than money

More than wealth

More than health

More than children

More than food and sleep (Debatable)

More than any thing in this world and Mars combined

We want to identify our selves in this universe.

Greatest desire in this world is ‘desire to be great my friend’.

Never ever confuse ‘greatness’ by fame.Greatness relates to uniqueness, a virtue which we show to our selves. It is our inner calculation.Fame is outer calculation.

If ego of all living being can be dropped to zero, all this social media, chaos, prizes, awards,TV channels, clothes, cars, accessories etc. etc. shall perish to a big zero.

This is what Osho teaches. This is what Buddha said 2600 years ago.
