So a student said something to me in Creative Writing today that pretty much blew out half my synapses. We were talking about the power of certain stories to stay with you, stand the test of time, and the conversation turned to comic books. I related my experience of reading the issue of
Batman when Joker kills the Jason Todd
Robin, the power of that image - Batman holding a broken, bleeding Robin, when one of my students piped up and said:
Student:
"Oh, they changed that in a recent storyline."Me: "
What? How?"
Student: "
Oh, alternate-universe Superboy punched Time in the face and brought dead Robin back to life."Me: "Wait...what?"
I think we may've nailed why I stopped reading comics not too long ago....
