Kids have an ability to be so ACTIVELY BORED, in a way that grown-ups don’t. As an adult, if I’m bored I am quiet, I’m scrolling away on my phone or I’m napping or I’m watching TV. I’m low-key.
Not kids. Kids are so annoying when they’re bored. They’re writhing around, saying “I’m bored, I’m bored. Kids are so actively bored that you want to yell: “use that energy to DO something.” If you can’t be chill while being bored, then what’s the point of being bored.
I think grownups are bored with a tinge of world-weariness, with a bit of ennui. It’s like what’s the point of it all. Kids are bored with a side of frustration and victimhood. It’s like WHY AM I BORED, THIS IS YOUR FAULT. They’re bored in a way that seems to blame grownups.
If I had all that bored energy, I’d use it to write angry letters to the editor or something. Why is that aggressive boredom wasted on kids?
