Take for instance Retinyl Propionate– this form has a lipid tail. And before it can fit into the receptor,it needs to have its lipid tail cleaved off by an enzyme. Since it takes time for the skin to break down and drop that lipid tail, this specific type has a delayed delivery.
Working alongside this time-released component is a fast-acting retinol that is tail-free and immediately bioavailable on the skin. Since it is gentler than many other forms of Vitamin A, this is an important feature for people who have experienced sensitivities from harsher formulas.
