21 Elfstones of Shannara. I saw the TV show and wanted to read the books so I started with that one. I have read about half the Shannara books so far.
Got a copy of The Sword of Shannara when I went to visit my Gran, I would have been around 12. Within a week I had read it and was looking for the next one. Over time I have bought and read all the Shannara series multiple times, looking forward to the next set of books, but not looking forward to the series ending.
In second grade, so around 7 or 8--it was the First King of Shannara, after hearing my parents read the Sword of Shannara out loud together. (Haven't stopped with epic fantasy since second grade!)
14 - Ilse witch. It was a great adventure and followed a very different format compared to the other books within the fantasy genre that i had read at the time :)
13 - was introduced to Terry Brooks by a friends parents who had to have been some of Terry's first fans - they named their first child Shannara, in 1977!
Dad picked up Sword of Shannara through a book club. My sister read it and passed it to me. We immediately bought Elfstones, then waited desperately for the release of Wishsong. I was a sophomore in High School, 14 and a half.
I believe I was 13, I know it was in the 8th grade, and it was the Sword of Shannara. My English/Reading Teacher introduced it to me, and it inspired in me a love of books that has continued to this day, 30 years later. Thank you Mr. Brooks!
I was 17 years old. Had just enlisted in the United States Army. Big fan of Tolkien and this has been a continuos read for me through entire series!
1979...I was hugely pregnant with twins and my physical activities were considerably curbed, when I found a book by a new author, Terry Brooks. I've read everything he has written, since then.
I was 12 years old and I had just convinced my mother to enroll me in the Waldenbooks Sci-Fi and Fantasy club. (Waldenbooks is gone, but I still have that tattered and faded card 32 years later.) The first book I bought with it was Sword of Shannara and I haven't looked back.
34-sword of shannara- now at 36 I have an amazing Terry Brooks collection. I read TB in the Star Wars EU and when I was purchasing one someone mentioned the shannara series. I love to read and love many books but these have a special place in my heart.
I was actually about 62! When I read the first book, of author Brooks, I was hooked bad. I have all his books from Kindle but I know there are more.I didn't have these great fantasy writers when I was younger..........but now I just binge on fantasy reading because there is so much available. Keep writing and I'll keep reading.
I was seven, thereabouts, seven or eight when my uncle bought me Sword of Shannara as a Christmas present.
I was 22. Up until that point, I wasn't much of a reader. I credit Mr. Brooks and this book/series to my love of reading now. I've read all of his books, and now many other books too.
