Time Interview with George RR Martin

Game of Throners are starting the countdown till Sunday evening; I hope it is premiering tomorrow, too, in other countries and there is no wait for anyone. Meanwhile, here is an excellent and insightful interview in Time Magazine with George RR Martin. I found it riveting, especially his confession about how difficult it was for him to write the Red Wedding chapter, so much so that he actually skipped it and then came back later. He also reveals his one real disagreement with HBO, a change they made that he did not agree with. I found that very interesting since that I’d totally approved of that particular HBO change. I’m curious to see how the rest of you feel? On this point, are you on Team GRRM or Team HBO? Here is the link. Enjoy. http://time.com/4791258/game-of-thron...

Iset Ah, yes. I and a lot of others were most disappointed that did not happen in the show. The horror of... what happened... well us book fans were taking some small measure of comfort because we were anticipating a vengeful return... and then nada!

I think I may be the opposite to George. My instincts seem to home right in on the most exciting scenes first. Inspiration will strike and I'll have to sit down and furiously type it out for hours or as long as it takes to get down... and then a week later I'll be writing a connecting scene between two exciting scenes and struggling to find my enthusiasm or the ambience I want to create.

Sharon I know what you mean, Iset. At the risk of sounding heartless, I could have written the Red Wedding scene without too much inner agony. But there are two scenes I could have have written, not ever. I will try to be discreet here since not everyone has see the HBO series and these episodes are sure to pop up in the books eventually. So I will just say what happened to Stannis's daugher Shereen and what happened in the kennels between Ramsay and his father's new wife and child.

Sharon Oops. I really need to proofread before hitting the Send button. I meant to say I could never have written those two scenes.

RJay Both of those scenes were brutal ...

I haven't read the books (yet) so don't know about the scene that was changed that Martin disagreed with ... I read the article but either missed it or it was the Danaerys wedding scene and I'm not sure what was changed.
