The Grimdark Reading List by C.T. Phipps


    A lot of people want to know what grimdark is and I wrote an entire essay on the subject (What is Grimdark?) discussing the subject. However, grimdark is like Shakespeare in that it is something better experienced rather than read. It's basically a subgenre of dark, gritty, fantasy. Authors inspired by Martin's habit of killing characters, letting the villains win as often as they lose, and bittersweet endings at best.
