You Didn't Just Do That, Did You?

Do you find that when you walk into a room, most of it's occupants leave? Do you find it difficult to make or maintain friendships? Do you find yourself voicing opinions without being asked for them?
Watch out. You just might be a discouraging Christian. (or person if you're not a Christian)
People are different, let's face it. We can't expect everyone to be like us, but there are things we can do to make our lives more enjoyable. Here are just a few thoughts-
- Be pleasant. Make eye contact and smile at people, at least giving the illusion that you're a friendly person. How you behave yourself later is totally up to you.
- Keep your opinions to yourself unless you're directly asked for them. Of course, the exception to this rule would be if someone were about to hurt themselves by sticking their finger in the light socket or driving off a cliff, then by all means, voice your opinion. And quickly, in some instances!
- Never expect something for free. Ever. I'm serious here. Too often in our society, people take things for granted. Let's look at this objectively for a moment. Let's say you know that I'm a sewing fanatic and I have an Etsy store. You've searched my store and found the cutest little cell phone holder, and because we're friends, you ask me to give it to you because you just can't offer me the $10 I'm asking for it. It's just a scrap of material and you're positive it didn't take me very long to create it, so because we're friends...
Do you see anything wrong with this? The Bible says, 'The workman is worthy of his hire' ~ if God expects us to pay our workers, wouldn't this fit in here? We're told in the Bible we're not to muzzle the oxen. I assume the oxen are allowed to eat some of that grain they're grinding? My point is, if you're truly friends with someone, don't expect something for free just because they have something you want. It's not fair to the worker, nor to your friendship.
- If someone is kind and gives you something for free, THANK THEM! This one should be a no-brainer, but I'm beginning to wonder...
