Often, I am the voyeur of a story. I perch on the perimeter and watch everything unfold. There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s quite fun actually. But once in a while a story is so seamless, a character so realistic, I am drawn in deeply and forget that it’s a work of someone’s imagination. I become fully immersed— breathing, sighing, crying alongside the character.
Every Last Word
by Tamara Ireland Stone is one of those novels. Stone has thoughtfully captured a young girl’s struggle with high school life, made all the more complicated and anxiety ridden by her OCD. This sense of authenticity, combined with a few twists and turns, made this one unputdownable for me.
