Andrea I am so excited for Death Cure and Ally's next book from Matched. I love this podcast, It was great to listen to authors who i really enjoy talking about plots and characters. I also know the Jughead comics. That probably dates me. Oh well

message 2: by Allaine (new)

Allaine i love the podcast!! i actually learned alot.. my dream is to write a YA novel someday and this definitely helped me, knowing that it isn't all about the plot, and that the character of the protagonist and the antagonist should be well molded as well..
by the way, i sooooo love maze runner!! been waiting for death cure since last year, 1 month to go!!!!!!!!! :D

message 3: by Sara (new)

Sara Hawk I love your books, but I tried to read "Matched" and I just couldn't get into it. I love that this series is a trilogy... seems like there are a lot of popular trilogies this year! Another book that your readers might like is "Divergent" by Veronica Roth, or, the "Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins.

I hope I win! :)

message 4: by Madison (new)

Madison I absoultely lovee your books!! And I totally enjoyed matched it was great. I learned soo much from the postcard and I always wanted to write a YA book some day so this definatley helped me thanks(: you're awesomee and I can NOT wait to read the death cure!!!

message 5: by Andy (new)

Andy I really liked how the conversation of starting novels with a plot or character differs between authors. This was an incredibly interesting concept to me, as I am a more plot driven person when creating stories. However, I could also see how a writer could come up with a character and then create a story around that character. Regardless, it was an interesting conversation and one that I was fully engaged with. Dashner, you're the man. Can't wait for The Death Cure to be released, unless of course I win an advanced copy... hmmmmm...

message 6: by Ane (new)

Ane I really enjoyed learning about plot & character as well. It's such an art and a true gift for authors to take words on paper and weave a magically spell of people and places that are unforgettable!! I AM DYING FOR THE DEATH CURE TO COME OUT!! EEK! PICK ME FOR THE ADVANCED COPY!! :) can't wait!!

Kate Jones I am excited for both Crossed and Death Cure's release, I have them on bn.com wish list. James I have been promoting The Maze Runner since its release. Everyone knows its one of my favorites. The podcast is great, I thank you for taking the time to discuss and give advice for other writers. I think you must have a strong balance between plot and character. Snape is my all time favorite character of any novel. I think Rowling is an absolute genius. The depth and secrecy of his character. I always look for salvation, or understanding among the evil/antagonist character. <3 Divergent! My all time favorite dystopian novel is Lois Lowrys "The Giver"................. Moon River :)

message 8: by Amanda (new)

Amanda I'm SO looking forward to the release of your book Death Cure AND Ally's Crossed!! It was fun to listen to the podcast to hear the authors that I love to read. :)
Thanks for the chance to win an advanced copy!!!

message 9: by Clayton (new)

Clayton I am so excited for the Death Cure to come out, it's already preordered on Amazon - however I would love to be able to cancel that order if I received the copy from here.

It was fun listening to Ally, I am still surprised at times how well an author can see the full story, while only knowing the details of a couple scenes. My wife read Matched and really liked it - I need to add it to my list.

message 10: by Emily (new)

Emily I absolutely love The Maze Runner Trilogy! i even got my younger brother addicted to it too. We have both been counting down the days till The Death Cure comes out, so i would love to win this for my brother and me. I loved the pod cast with Ally Condie as the guest. I love Matched and how Ally used things from her life to help write the book. Can't wait for Nov. 1 for Crossed to come out! :)

message 11: by Jaime (new)

Jaime I can't wait for The Death Cure! I absolutely love this series and I'm counting down the days until this novel is released! I also read Matched and enjoyed it very much. The podcast was very interesting to listen to, and I agree that a balance between plot and character is necessary. I tend to not enjoy stories as much when they are all about plot and have boring characters, or vice versa. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to win an advanced copy!!

message 12: by Maddiet (new)

Maddiet i love this podcast. I didn't quite understand what Matched was about and the way Ali Condie described it made it sound so good! I cant believe shes's reading mockingbird. I've read it too!

message 13: by Brett (new)

Brett I'm glad you posted something about entering to win an advanced copy if we listed to the Wordplay podcast. I enjoyed not only episode two, but one and three as well. Listening not only makes me think more about my writing, but also about my reading. It also gave me a great new book to read, Robopocalypse.

My favorite part about episode two was the idea that not only are protagonists and antagonists multifaceted, but the plot and circumstances are multifaceted. I also think this is what makes someone identify with characters and situations. Instead of a static world, the story matches the pattern of their own life.

Each of us spends time expanding and contracting their comprehension and understanding. I found myself reflecting, with a little quantum theory, that by expanding and contracting our understanding we influence the outcomes and environment around us.

I think this is why I really enjoyed your second book in the Maze Runner trilogy. Past the obstacle that appeared to be the summit, the protagonist had to continue to expand his understanding of the world and obstacles to his goal, along with trying to determine who he is and what his goals are. By doing so, he changed the outcomes and environment - the variables.

Sorry for the verbose post and thinking. But I love the way the podcast makes me think.

Jessica 1- I think its really cool that you go on here and post things like this :)

2- The Maze Runner was amazing, and I am waiting for the Scorch Trials at my library.

3- I want to buy the whole series, but I only have like $10 right now and am going to the movies this weekend. (When I get my own house and stuff, I'll have a huge library like in the Beauty and the Beast and will have a bunch of other books, including the Maze Runner series.)
