The Creature Below
*Movie Review
I previewed this one back in February, but I've been getting so many movies, June is when I get to post it. JUNE! Anyway, it's well worth the wait, if you're a Lovecraftian fan. This movie combines science fiction, monsters and insanity, all wrapped up in a slimy, blood-hungry, tentacled bow. It's so weird, I wasn't sure I needed to cry or cheer.
The Creature Below is one of those movies where you have to focus on what's supposed to be happening, more than the underlying message. Because if you dig too deep, you could actually find something gruesome, disappointing and very low budget.
The story was about a woman and scientist, who'd gone against the rules in the name of science. While on expedition, she encounters something that connects with her in the physical sense. It gave her something in particular that causes her life to spiral into depths as murky as the ocean she studied.
I purchased The Creature Below- this was not a screener flick. It's also a purchase I truly regret; it was such a bummer! What I appreciated was the style of the movie. Lovecraft was written all over it, allowing me to not just double-thumb it, but the FX's and the acting was awful. Like, B-- awful!
Sadly, I may never watch this one again. I'm sorry...
You can watch The Creature Below in iTunes and On-Demand. Cheers!
